Grumpy's' success dwarfs others

Does this woman look grumpy?
Leah Hulan greets me at the door of her new digs on Union Street as if I am a long-lost friend instead of merely someone who's come to bend her ear about advertising.  Her smile is as dazzling as her 6,200-square-foot suite of offices that includes a couple of amenities no bail bonding facility should be without--a workout room and a bar.
The former Miss Tennessee ushers me into her private office and bids me to sit in one of the plush armchairs arrayed in front of her desk. "I love your paper," she chirps as she riffs through the copy I've handed her.  "It's just fabulous."
"Fabulous" would be the word to describe Leah Hulan, who is cutting a swath through a male-dominated business.  "Vivacious," "ebullient," "exotic," and "relentlessly cheerful" are some other ones that come to mind.  So where did "grumpy" come from?
"I named the company for my husband," she says.  "He's a great guy, but he doesn't have my temperament."  Kevin Davis is a former Special Services operative who now works for his wife, as one of about a dozen agents in the fold.  He and Leah (also a veteran--she was a second lieutenant in the U. S. Army and served in the Gulf War) both enjoy the rough-and-tumble aspects of the business, but their approach to the enterprise of bail bonding is somewhat unique.
Grumpy's mission is to give a hand up to those who may have hit rock-bottom, who are behind bars and need not just a Get Out of Jail card but a bit of empathy and compassion.  But don't call Leah Hulan a bleeding heart -- she demands accountability from her clients and a commitment from them to make a change in their lives for the better.
