A Message from the Director of Schools & City of Franklin

Dear FSSD School Community, 

Since the profoundly tragic events of last Friday in Newtown, Connecticut, there has been significant discussion about school security in the FSSD and all school districts around the country. 

The FSSD has detailed security plans and protocols in place and emergency drills are practiced to appropriately respond if the need arises. Now our focus will be improvements of those plans and opportunities to provide additional deterrents in our utmost efforts to keep our children, employees and visitors safe. 

We are fortunate to have a viable partnership with the Franklin Police Department. Chief David Rahinsky, with the support of City Administrator Eric Stuckey and Franklin Mayor, Dr. Ken Moore, has directed officers to increase their presence in and around our schools. Dialogue on how to increase existing partnerships and best protect our community's children continues to be a top priority. Chief Rahinsky said, "The tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, are a solemn reminder of the importance of our united commitment to keeping classrooms safe." Mayor Moore continued, "Parents will continue to see an increased presence of our police force at our schools." We are appreciative of the support all of our schools receive from city and county government agencies as well as the law enforcement community. 

Schools, by their very nature, are fragile environments where innocence, goodness and love prevail, so when evil visits we are all saddened and shocked. We will continue to pray for the families of the victims at Sandy Hook School, the surviving children, parents, faculty and staff, who are left with such immense grief, and the entire community of Newtown. 

We can assure the citizens of this area that we, collectively, will continue to focus on providing the most safe and secure environment possible for all students, employees and visitors.

Wanted in Dickson

Franklin Police recover $20 grand in stolen goods

Franklin Police Flex Officers have recovered upwards of $20,000 in merchandise shoplifted from the CoolSprings Galleria since Black Friday. Working closely with security, undercover officers have made 55 arrests as the operation dubbed “Not in Our Mall,” remains in full force. 

Last night officers arrested 31-year-old Lindsey Locke (shown here) of Murfreesboro and recovered nearly $3,000 in stolen merchandise from her car. Undercover officers recognized Locke as the same woman who got away with more than $700 in stolen perfume and designer handbags Saturday. That theft wasn’t discovered until after Locke had gotten away with the stolen goods and clerks found empty boxes she left behind. After reviewing the video, security and police recognized Locke when she returned to the scene of the crime last night. Officers also arrested Rodney Hutson, who was with her last night. Hutson was wanted by Metro Police on unrelated charges.

Locke, charged with Felony Theft, remains in custody on a $3,500 bond. She is also wanted by Sumner County authorities on unrelated charges. Locke is due in Williamson County Court 01/03/2013 at 2:00 pm. 

Uniformed and undercover officers will continue with operation “Not in Our Mall” throughout the remainder of the holiday shopping season.

Getting their Christmas shop(lift)ing in early

Franklin Police are asking for the public’s help to identify two women who stole nearly $700 in merchandise Saturday morning from the Mallory Lane Walmart. The suspects rolled shopping carts filled with unpaid merchandise out the door, loaded it into their white Ford Expedition, and then drove away. If you have information about these suspects, their vehicle, or this case, that information could be worth up to $1,000 in cash. Call Crime Stoppers  (615) 794-4000.

Suspect Wanted for Galleria Getaway

A weekend shoplifting suspect is now a wanted felon after nearly running down a Franklin Police Officer during her getaway. 

Flex Unit Officers, working at the CoolSprings Galleria Saturday, were assisting security with the apprehension of three female shoplifters trying to make their getaway. A plain clothes Franklin Police Officer spotted the suspects and stepped in front of the parked car they had just gotten into. He repeatedly identified himself as a police officer, ordering the suspects from the vehicle. That’s when the driver, 24-year old Dabney Frey, put her car into drive and advanced on the officer who had to move out of her path to avoid being run over. Frey, with the street name Moe-Moe, and an alias of Dabney Dean, is now wanted for Aggravated Assault, and may still be driving her gold 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Tennessee registration G1433Y. Frey is believed to be in Nashville. Information on her whereabouts is worth up to $1,000 with a call to Metro Crime Stoppers at 74-Crime.

Four Sergeants Graduate from Police Management Program

Four Franklin Police Sergeants graduated this week from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command . Sergeants Scott Legieza, Todd Stamper, J.P. Taylor, and Eric Treanor attended the intensive 10-week program designed to help prepare police managers for senior positions. Leadership principles, human resource components, specialty programs administration, as well as planning and analysis considerations were at the center of the program. 

“Continually training and developing our management team furthers our daily commitment to delivering the professional, progressive law enforcement services that our community deserves,” said Chief David Rahinsky. “The Department and I congratulate each of these men for their achievement.”
